Yoga Therapy is the biopsychosocialspiritual approach to healing. Using yoga techniques and practices to work with the WHOLE self. When we have a physical injury or ailment, it does not only affect the biological body, it also takes hold of our mental and spiritual wellbeing and conversely a mental or emotional illness can have devastating effects on the body. Yoga Therapy takes all of that into account. In a one on one session with me we will review your goals as noted in an intake form you would fill out prior to the session, and use any of the therapeutic yoga tools we can that will best serve your needs and goals. This may include breath work, restorative yoga, asana, pranayama (breathing exercises), fascial release, meditation and the use of sound. It will never include me touching you or entering your space without EXPRESS and continuous consent, the most I would ever do is offer you a prop or blanket. This works best in conjunction with a diagnosis from a medical professional and support of other professionals such as counselling, talk therapy, doctors, TCM, massage and physiotherapy.

Cultivate a practice of peace on and off of your mat by joining in this breath and meditation class. A short gentle asana practice prepares the physical body for stillness. Breath work prepares the energetic, mental and emotional body for meditation. The meditation practice helps us realize our true self, our needs and wants, we may invite gratitude or courage or something else that arises. We sometimes get locked into thinking the here and now is the most important thing, we HAVE to do more, be more, achieve more and we forget that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. The benefits of meditation are endless from improved focus, sleep, posture, life choices, mental health and the list goes on. The benefit of attending a meditation class is that you are not alone, I will guide you through the meditations so you are less inclined to wonder what is happening next or if you remembered to switch the laundry. Morning meditations will have more uplifting and energizing practices and ones offered later in the day are often more calming and relaxing practices.

This shorter class focuses exclusively on proper engagement of the four main muscle groups that we call our core. The core muscles support our spine and house our vital organs. A strong core means less back pain, improved digestion, posture and pelvic alignment, supported nervous system and better overall mobility. This class is gentle and accessible as we start with focused awareness of one muscle group at a time and learn how to properly engage with them. Leave feeling strong and supported with new healthy habits to practice throughout the day. This is a small section of my Yoga Therapy series for back care.

Hips are the place where most movement comes from in our bodies. They help us to balance, to sit, to stand, to walk and engage in physical activity. In this class the focus is on strengthening, mobilizing and nourishing the hips. There is a nice slow warm up as we check in on our hips with some gentle movements and then we explore hip movements in different positions (on our back, sitting up, on hands and knees and standing) until we close the class with hip release asana and a nice restful savasana. When the hips are released we will experience improved balance, emotional regulation, improved pelvic floor health, reduced low back pain, support for knees and more ease with physical activity.

What is this for?
We will tackle that pesky head forward position that can lead to hunched shoulders. (Thoracic Kyphosis) this one is a slower process so we have 7 weeks to explore this practice.
Benefits may include and are not limited to:
Improved Head position comfort in biking, Shoulder checking (driving, skiing, boarding, biking, etc.) Golf swing, osteoporosis and height loss, depression, breathing, neck and shoulder mobility.
Investment
For the 2024/25 fall and winter season Yoga therapy series are discounted and will increase after finishing my C-IAYT program. In this time all series will be run with behind the scenes help from a mentor, ensuring excellent classes that will support the growth of the group.
All Are Welcome!
We will spend some time on the ground, and I will have chairs available to assist with transitions and standing poses.
Prefer a more personalized experience? I am also offering these as private sessions! email kayla@sunpeaksyoga.ca for my available times.

Mountain Feet
This is a short class to give a little extra TLC to our feet. Maybe we are making up for wearing uncomfortable boots, maybe we want to improve weight transfer across the whole foot, maybe we want to more deeply support our body from the ground up. Whatever your motivation, this class is awesome! We will release fascia and muscles in the bottom of our feet, building awareness of our feet, then we will build strength and connection to the earth with asana. You will leave ready to take your next step.

A six week therapeutic yoga series for the knees to improve, understand and appreciate the use of our knees, especially up on the mountain.

Mountain Recovery
This is a blend of Myofascial release, Yin and Restorative yoga. All of the practices in this class are designed to help you recover from your time on the mountain whether you were snowshoeing, biking, sliding on snow, working out at the gym, shovelling snow, hiking or any other mountain sport. Experience intense release of built tension and then deep restorative relaxation in this class so you can wake up and do it all again tomorrow and the next day, week after week.
What to bring: Light layers, water, a mat, a blanket, a bolster (or an extra blanket), and 1 or 2 blocks.

Mukti translates to liberation. More specifically, liberation from ego. In this class we will flow through asana at our own breath pace and let our bodies be liberated from the confines of expectation, ego and the idea that we have to be perfect all the time. The energy of this class is fun, lighthearted and energizing. A lot of restrictions that we put on ourselves tend to come from our head and our heart so we will engage in breath practice to clear the mind and the physical asana will be led with the intention of opening the heart space. Free your mind, free your heart. Liberation! Mukti!

Build strength in your relationship with your significant other in this partner workshop. We will begin with some breath and meditation exercises to get you and your yoga partner on the same level and then use that bond to flow through some poses that will require teamwork and connection to find balance together. The class will wind down with some partner assisted muscle release poses and then a shared Savasana. Yoga presents us with mental and physical challenges to overcome and in doing so we learn new skills that can help us on and off the mat, this is an opportunity to bring that to your relationship.
All levels and abilities welcome.

Restore your body after a long week of work, travel, high impact sports, and everyday life stresses. I will guide you through a few restorative yoga postures, also referred to as “advanced napping”. Once you are COMFORTABLE in each pose with props, pillows and blankets, they will be held for anywhere between 5-15 minutes depending on the pose. During each hold I will take you on a deep journey of sound using crystal singing bowls tuned to each of your energy centres (Chakras), a gong, a flute, several drums and chimes, nature based sounds and more along the way. You also have the option to include essential oils wafted through the space. If you have a scent sensitivity please let me know ahead of time and I will easily be able to make it a scent free experience, nothing will be put directly on your body in any case.

Yin to Nidra pairs the deep, long held poses of yin yoga that move the energy through the physical body and release the fascia followed by the restful, insightful and powerful practice of yogic sleep.
Modifications are always available in any given class and you can go at your own pace. If you show up to class and lay on the mat and take a nap, there will be nothing but support for that all around.

This lovely class will allow you to mindfully meet your body where it is. Flow through gentle postures and build a solid foundation for your practice and self love.

A journey of sound travelling through your body, mind and spirit. This experience often touches on all elements, to help your energy move through you as it needs. The mind may wander far and away, you may have the BEST sleep of your life, you may come out of the sound waves feeling like a whole new person, or having returned to the deepest, truest form of yourself. The only way to know is to experience it for yourself. I use crystal bowls tuned to the body and each chakra, a gong, drums, rattles, chimes, tingshas, brass bowls, rain sticks, wave drums, flutes, trigons and more to take you on this journey of sound.
Modifications are always available in any given class and you can go at your own pace. If you show up to class and lay on the mat and take a nap, there will be nothing but support for that all around.

This class uses therapeutic yoga techniques to delve deeper into the whole body from head to toe. Taught as a continuous series, each week is a different body part and each class leads into the next week’s topic. Head and neck, shoulders, spine, core 4, hips, knees, feet. The focus changes week to week but the class will always include nourishing movement, body awareness and connection, breath practice, energetic meditation and rest. Difficulty level 3/10. This class is designed for every body, if you want to use a chair - you can, if you want to make it more challenging - you can.
Modifications are always available in any given class and you can go at your own pace. If you show up to class and lay on the mat and take a nap, there will be nothing but support for that all around.

Join Kayla for this FESTIVE class as we transition slowly and mindfully through poses and then move with our breath through the same poses a little bit faster. A Christmas twist to a traditional Flow style class, incorporating breath work, movement, alignment, stretching and balance.
All bodies and all levels welcome.
