Sun Peaks is a special place where things don't follow the rules of the big city. Seasons play a significant
role in our life here, up the hill. So, we apply this to Pilates, too!
What does this mean?
Well, it's the season of alpine/XC skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing – you name it. Muscles get tight,
and there's no point in trying to strengthen a tight muscle. So, expect to start each session with some
fascial release or stretching. It takes a bit of patience and breathing, but people say it's worth it.
Also, my Pilates practice started from the belief that "Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness".
Pilates). But again, I learnt that physical fitness means different things for different people of different
ages and with different athletic goals.
In a diverse mat group class environment like this class, I'll always keep present some of the staple
Pilates challenges and types of movement – core activation and usage, spine movement in all planes of
motion (forward and lateral flexion, rotation, extension), lateral breathing, some form of balance or
coordination. The rest will follow based on each session's participants and needs.
But Pilates is, first and foremost, about the quality of the movement. Start by learning the alphabet, and
then, you'll be free to read endless volumes.
If you are a beginner (never ever, or did Pilates many years before, etc.), please take the time and
come 15 minutes earlier. This way, we can briefly cover some of the essential aspects that each pilates
practitioner must know about how their body is moving (What's the "core"? Where is it? How do I use
it? How's my pelvis moving and why is it important?). This is a complimentary mini Pilates session
offering beginners a quick Intro to the Pilates world and levelling the practice ground for all the class
participants.
I'll be happy to share my 13+ years of Pilates experience with you, no matter if we do pre-Pilates
exercises or the Teaser!
